The track I think has a great spatial processing is the track “Inside World” by Oneohtrix point Never. The track sounds like walking into some weird digital world that never fully loads. Stuff just appears, hangs there, then disappears before you get used to it.
The space in this piece feels fake on purpose. Like those glossy 3D demo rooms from early software. A sound pops up super close, almost too clean, then suddenly it’s smeared out with reverb and short delay, like it got pushed backwards into some endless background.
What’s cool is how nothing really “locks in.” Sounds don’t sit still. They flicker, overlap, fade into each other. The panning in this track is quite rich. Sometimes it feels empty, then suddenly crowded again. It’s like the track keeps opening little doors and closing them right away. Also, the timbre is kind of shiny, kind of cold which makes the whole thing feel distant, even when sounds are right up front. The process of vocal is also quite unpredictable, you never know which direction will the vocal come from next.
I guess that’s what makes the track interesting. It’s not just using reverb and delay to make things sound big. It’s using them to mess with where you think you are. Like the music is less about notes, more about moving through a space that doesn’t really exist.
