My initial interest in sound arts

My enthusiasm of sound creation and production starts with electronic music. I started listening to electronic music when I was in middle school, starting with techno and continuing with ambient, deconstructed club, IDM, and other underground music genres. These music genres make me want to dig more into the creation and arts of sound.

Another reason for my passion for electronic music and sound creation is that I think it’s very different from traditional music creation, and when I’m creating sounds, I’m in a state between sensibility and rationality. At the same time, modern technology has made it possible to create music and sounds that are no longer limited to melodic rhythms and harmonies, and to push the boundaries of timbre with software or hardware synthesizers, or even to turn a sample into an instrument with effects, or to use slices and then trigger the sample with a sequencer to make rhythms. For the past few years, I intensive studied how to use a DAW, which mainly focused on Ableton Live. I also learned a bit about Max and now I can easily make some patches with this technique which do helps a lot in sound design. I like to use max to break through some of the limitations of software synthesizers, such as using max to amplify the LFO rate of a DAW’s own modulation plug-ins, and so on, and these little techniques will bring unexpected results to my creations. I also like to play with analog synthesizers a lot, especially eurorack.

For me, this term will take me to better explore the boundaries of sound.
